Why did I visit there?

I decided to visit Enoshima because I had heard that it’s a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, allowing me to relax and unwind in a serene environment. One of the main attractions that caught my attention was the Sea Candle located at the summit of Enoshima. This tower-like observation deck is adorned with vibrant lights and offers a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view.

From the top, you can take in the stunning vistas of the beautiful Shonan coastline, with glimpses of the majestic Mount Fuji in the distance. The sunset hours are particularly enchanting, as the sky and sea are bathed in vibrant colours, creating a truly romantic atmosphere.

What makes the view from the Sea Candle even more captivating is the ever-changing beauty that each season brings. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom in abundance, while summer sees the coastline bustling with beachgoers. Autumn adorns the landscape with vibrant foliage, and in winter, the sight of the chilly sea creates a serene and peaceful ambience.

Visiting the Sea Candle at the top of Enoshima is an experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression, as its grandeur and beauty are truly captivating. It’s an opportunity to create cherished memories and immerse oneself in the natural wonders of the island.

Additionally, Enoshima is famous for its Shirasu-don, a dish made with fresh shirasu, which are small whitebait fish caught in the waters around Enoshima. It is a local speciality and a must-try for visitors.

Shirasu-don consists of a bed of rice topped with a generous amount of shirasu. It is then garnished with a soy-based sauce, wasabi, green onions, and seaweed. The small size of shirasu makes it easy to eat, even for those who are not particularly fond of seafood. When you take a bite, you’ll experience a subtle sweetness and umami flavour that spreads in your mouth.

The Enoshima region is known for its abundant fishing grounds, resulting in a thriving shirasu industry. As a result, you can enjoy Shirasu-don in most seafood restaurants and eateries in the area. It’s a fantastic opportunity to savour the fresh local shirasu that can only be found in this fishing town.

Shirasu-don is a dish that emphasizes the freshness of its ingredients and the unique flavours of the region. When you visit Enoshima, be sure to try Shirasu-don. It’s a wonderful way to taste the delicious bounty of the sea while creating lasting memories of your trip.
